Top 6 Films of 2013

2013 wasn’t necessarily the best year for movies in general. There were quite a few films that were just okay and a few big disappointments as well.

In any case, this is a list of my 6 favorite films that were released in 2013. They are listed here in descending order of preference, meaning the #1 film is my absolute favorite of 2013.

6. Warm Bodies

Even though this was in some respects a kind of Twilight with zombies, it was better than that series because it wasn’t taken as seriously as the Twilight series was. It combined humor with the love story bit.

5. R.I.P.D.

This one was a bit corny at times and seemed like a Men in Black only with dead people instead of aliens. That being said, I liked the way Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds works off each other with their banter and what not. The inclusion of Kevin Bacon gave me more ammunition to use in the 6 degrees to Kevin Bacon game too.

4. The Wolverine

Not much to say about this one. Comic book movie. Wolverine. Shiny claws. Kicks people’s asses. Awesome preview of what’s to come in the post-credits scene.

3. GI Joe: Retaliation

Liked this one better than the first one even though they killed off one of the main characters. I liked how they brought Cobra Commander back to what I envision when I think of Cobra Commander. The Rock as Roadblock was a good call. The ninja fight scene in the mountains was great.

2. Star Trek Into Darkness

Great sequel. I really like what Abrams brought to this franchise.

1. Man of Steel

Absolute best film of the year. Not only that but this film unseated Batman Begins as my all-time favorite comic book/super hero movie of all-time. You have to get the special edition DVD or Blu-Ray and watch the extra material about the history of Krypton. My only beef with this film, if any, is I think they could have found a better actor to play General Zod. Michael Shannon did it fine but there was something about him that was just slightly off.
