Top 3 Films: Chris Rock

Happy 46th Birthday Chris!!!!

Dogma (1999

In this Kevin Smith film, Rock plays Rufus the 13th Apostle (left out of the Bible because he is black).
Rock’s character in this movie was hilarious and made a movie that was already great better.
I loved this movie. I saw it in the theater like 3 or 4 times. In fact, I watched it twice on the same day (long story).
Great cast. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon play 2 renegade angels. Linday Fiorentino plays Bethany, a woman that finds out she is related to Jesus. Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith play the comical duo of Jay and Silent Bob. Also in the movie are Alan Rickman, Jason Lee, Salma Hayek, George Carlin, Bud Cort and Alanis Morissette.

Down to Earth (2001)
In this one, Chris plays a comedian that is hit by a bus and dies before it was his “appointed time.” The angel that takes his soul away has to find him a new one and Chris’ character, Lance Barton ends up in the body of an rich senior citizen. This film is a re-make (of sorts) of a 1978 film starring Warren Beatty called Heaven Can Wait, which itself is actually a remake of a 1941 film titled Here Comes Mr. Jordan.
Also starring in this film are Eugene Levy, Wanda Sykes and John Cho.
Head of State (2003)
Chris not only starred in this film but also directed it. Great political comedy about an alderman (Mays Gilliam) that loses his job and winds up running for President.
Also starring in this film are Bernie Mac (who plays Mays’ brother and vice presidential candidate), Robin Givens, and Tracy Morgan, among many others.
Honorable Mentions:
CB4 (1993)
Dr Doolittle (1998) – as the voice of Rodney the guinea pig
Lethal Weapon 4 (1998)
Osmosis Jones (2001) – as the voice of Osmosis Jones
The Longest Yard (2005)
