Anyway, so Alan Scott’s origin goes like this. A green meteor fell to earth thousands of years ago and eventually formed itself into a green lantern. Scott, a railroad engineer, gained possession of the lamp and gave him incredible powers.
Hal Jordan is the “Silver Age” Green Lantern. The Silver Age of Comics lasted from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s.
Hal is, in my opinion, the more recognized Green Lantern in comics and he is the character upon which the live action movie will be based.
Hal Jordan was a test pilot that came across the lantern when an alien named Abin Sur searched the galaxy looking for someone honest to take his place as a Green Lantern and crash landed on Earth and found Hal.
One of two of the “Bronze Age” Green Lanterns. The Bronze Age was the time between 1971 and 1985.
Guy Gardner was a social welfare caseworker and later a teacher for children with disabilities. As his origin states, he was Abin Sur’s 2nd choice to replace him as a Green Lantern, thus he became Hal Jordan’s “backup.”
The other “Bronze Age” Green Lantern.
John Stewart was an architect who temporarily replaced Guy Gardner when the later ended up a coma for a while. He also took over as Green Lantern temporarily when the next Green Lantern, Kyla Rayner, left Earth.
The Green Lantern of the “Modern Age.” The Modern Age, which is also known as the “Iron Age” takes place between the mid-1980s and present day.
Kyle Rayner was an artist who becomes a Green Lantern when one of the Guardians of the Universe asks him to become one.
Kyle Rayner is my 2nd favorite Green Lantern, after Hal Jordan.
Jade is the first female Green Lantern from the planet Earth. Her real name is Jennifer-Lynn Hayden. She is the daughter of former Green Lantern Alan Scott.

Guardians of the Universe
The Guardians were an immortal extraterrestrial race that founded and led the Green Lantern Corps [see below]. They are short and blue. They kind of look a little like the Oompa Loompas.
They are originally from a planet called Maltus.
Green Lantern Corps
The Green Lantern Corps are basically an intergalactic police force. They spend their time patrolling the universe, righting wrongs and what not.
The Guardians originally created a force of robots called Manhunters to enforce order in the universe. The Manhunters eventually rebelled against their masters and decided that the only was to achieve real order in the universe was to destroy all life.
After this, the Guardians decided that their police force was to consist instead of living beings and created the Green Lantern Corps. To assist them, they also created the Power Rings, which allowed their wearers to project green beams of energy that the wearer could conjure into any shape or size, only limited by their imagination.
Sinestro is a former Green Lantern and former mentor of Hal Jordan. He was eventually banished by the Guardians to an alternate universe for abusing his power. He was given a yellow power ring by a group called the Weaponers who hated the Guardians. After getting the ring he was sent back to his own universe. He then became a super villain. He was voted #15 in the IGNs Top 100 Comic Book Villains of All Time.
