SpotLight on Christianity: Bono

A friend of mine recently commented in response to a post of mine that I have been too negative toward Christianity.

I would have to say that I agree with him and thank him for pointing it out.

He also came up with a great idea to counter the negative posts I have done recently on fellow Christians. He gave me the idea to spotlight organizations or people of the Christian persuasion that have done some good in the world.

So with that in mind, my first spotlight will on Bono, the singer for U2. He is a good example of a person that has used his immense fame for good.

A prime example of his work is his co-founding of the ONE campaign. While not necessarily a Christian organization in and of itself, the fact that Bono himself co-founded it leads me to believe that his faith was partially behind it.

The ONE campaign, in case you don’t know, is a organization whose goal it is to increase funding for international aid programs, specifically in the areas of ending global poverty and global diseases, such as AID and malaria.

There are a few other issues it deals with besides these such as debt relief to third-world countries, increasing the quality of drinking water, and providing basic education for all,

The ONE campaign is originally a coalition of other non-profit humanitarian and advocacy organizations, one of which was the one founded by Bono, called DATA (which stands or Debt, AIDS, Trade in Africa). This particular project receives support from two other notable rock artists, the bands Switchfoot and Third Day.

So you see, Christians aren’t all bad. There are some people out there doing good.

So please, in no way take my comments on the wrongdoings of Christians as me saying that all Christians are bad.

Thank you. That is all for now.
